The NFL draft is now officially underway, with teams picking in the first half of the month.
While this week’s draft class might have more depth, it does lack the superstar power of last year’s crop.
Here are five things to know ahead of the next round.
Can you draft a quarterback?
Most of the top prospects will likely be in the draft, but there’s one player who’s not expected to be a first-rounder this year.
Stanford quarterback Josh Rosen is a projected first-round pick, but his stock has taken a hit with reports of a “medical” issue.
Rosen is expected to have a second opinion, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
He reportedly tested positive for elevated blood-pressure on Saturday, according a source.
Can the draft make or break a team?
Drafting quarterbacks could be a critical factor in determining who ends up with the number one overall pick.
It could also mean a lot in determining which team has a shot at winning the title.
If a team needs to upgrade at wide receiver, a prospect like Alabama wideout Amari Cooper could be the perfect fit.
But for now, the draft is a great way to gauge a team’s depth.
It can also be a great place to look at how a team handles a roster with too many holes.
For instance, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a big hole in the middle, but they could use help in the backfield.
Is there a quarterback that fits a team best?
While a lot of players have been rumored to be available in the top 10, the NFL Draft has yet to yield a top-10 quarterback.
For the first time in more than a decade, the Cleveland Browns are one of the most exciting teams in the NFL.
This is a team that will likely have a great chance at winning a title, but their quarterback situation will likely determine whether they get there.
If that’s the case, the team could be looking to take a quarterback in the late rounds of the draft.
Who has the best arm?
If the draft turns out to be one of those “get the most bang for your buck” days, there’s always the chance that a quarterback is drafted as a safety or cornerback.
There are plenty of players who fit that mold, including LSU defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston and Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer.
But if that’s not the case for a team, the best players likely will be offensive tackles and receivers.
Will the draft be exciting for fans?
There are a lot to like about this year’s draft.
It’s the first since the 2016 draft and it’s one of just two years since the NFL has had a draft in which the first overall pick has been selected by an NFL team.
But the real excitement for fans will come this coming season when teams will have to make a decision about how they want to use their picks in the 2017 NFL Draft.
How many teams will be able to draft the best quarterback in 2017?
Who will have the best player of the year?
And how will the NFL’s draft landscape look this year?
