The first city named after a Queensland State government is also the first to be designated as “Orange Beach” in Australia, after a similar decision was made for the state’s capital Brisbane.
The new city of Phoenix will also mark the start of a national tourism industry in Queensland.
The announcement was made by Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Wednesday at a press conference in the Sunshine State’s capital, Brisbane.

The state is also a destination for tourism, Palasek said, with about 400,000 people visiting Brisbane every year.
Palaszuk said the tourism industry is also growing.

Queensland has now grown its tourism economy by almost 25 per cent over the past five years.
